Day 39 - Friday 16th October - Trotternish

Drove North from Portree. First stop The Old Man of Stoer. We both made it up the quite tricky paths to the Old Man. Lots of people on this one, admiring the spectacular rock architecture.

Then Kilt Rock and a waterfall.

At Quiraing we looked at the path from the car park and gave up at exactly the same point we reached 10 years ago - a wet and slippery 'bad step'. We saw a couple of guys paragliding down the valley on the light winds.

We carried on North and stopped at Duntulm Castle - a ruin on a rocky headland. Beautiful beach architecture, and closest point to the Shiant Islands, which Andy has visited a couple of times on Pengin sailing cruises.

Heading South down the other side of Trotternish, we arrived at Uig, where we drove up a side road to the Fairy Glen. Interesting topography apparently caused by landslips, lots of conical mounds. It seems to be a big tourist draw- another car park undergoing extension and improvement works.

Back at Uig, we parked up to watch the sunset. The ferry from Tarbet in Harris came in just before the sun set.

Back to Torvaig Camp Site for the last night on Skye.
