Scotland - Day 12 - Sunday 20th - Banranald Camp Site - North Uist.

Banranald Camp Site - North Uist.

We drove the length of Uist, calling in to Lochmaddy on the way for a look. It being a Sunday there was very little open on the way. We stayed at the above site, which is in an RSPB nature reserve. Apparently it's one of the places where RSPB spend money on preserving the corncrake. See "Isles of the West" by Ian Mitchell for an analysis of everything he disagrees with over RSPB policy! Anyway, no corncrakes whilst we were there but lots of greylag geese and lapwings.

We went on a long walk around a waymarked trail along the headland and the many fantastic beaches nearby. It turned out to be rather too long again and ended with a section on the road, which was tiring and punctuated by leaping for the verge as the faithful arrived for evening service.
