Day 22 Wednesday 30 September Stornoway to Ullapool

Rain  and wind  cleared early morning , Sb went for a jog/walk down to the periphery of  Stornoway Estate Park and on the way back visited the war memorial on top of the hill to those from Lewis  who lost their lives in WW1, including 181 servicemen returning home from war aboard the ship Iolaire when the ship was wrecked on the rocks just outside of Stornoway on New Year's Day 1999( a hastily commissioned ship overloaded with troops and not fit for purpose )  A very moving memorial site.
Packed up and sad to leave Stornoway after this visit , we   recommend Laxdale holiday park , small and quiet and  only 30 mins walk into town and the harbour.
Ferry crossing to Ullapool was very smooth, we sat on deck where there was shelter from rain. Staying at Ullapool Camper park for 2 nights ( no booking, first come first served, self contained MHs only) Visit to the Ferry Boat pub overlooking the harbour , very spacious and Covid 19 sensitive
