Day 16 - Thursday 24th September - Huisnish

Drove N from Luskentyre, past Tarbert, then took a left along 14 miles of winding switchback single track, a bit scary in places, to get to Huisnis. Very neat MH parking with hook ups at £15 a night, which we took up. Had a chat with the North Harris Trust man who was collecting the cash from the honesty box. Very interesting to hear his take on the pace of change in Harris and Lewis - he was English and moved here to take on a croft 14 years ago. He says the influence of the Wee Frees is gradually waning and society is becoming a bit more liberal. Then a 1/4 mile walk over a hill and down to the beach where we swam a couple of times in turquoise clear water over silver sand in freezing cold water. Back up to the MH to get warm and have lunch and then we did some late afternoon wandering about. Decided the circular route to the N was too strenuous and it was too late so we did shorter walks around the headland of this beautiful place. A number of vans parking for free down by the beach and another at the top of the hill, very organised people who got a fire pit going and sat out late into the night.
