We liked this excellent campsite; Andy enjoyed the sea swimming (waves were too high for me) and I appreciated the excellent on site swimming pool, and the hot clean power showers. We both enjoyed strolling along the paseo and visiting the Castillo Peniscola. However, after 3 nights , we had had enough of the hustle and bustle of a tourist town and decided to move on today, first day of rain.
We will drive for 3 hours and enjoy the olive and orange trees en route, before our overnight stop tonight at an Aire in Quinto.
We called in at the hilltop village of Morella with a huge ruined fortified castle at the top and a poets garden and interesting streets to wander around.
Tremendous views from the castle if you are up to the climb and the many steps.
We called in at Alcaniz to inspect the city aire, decided against it and drove on to Quinto.
The residents of Quinton kindly provide a free aire with services and electricity if you buy tokens. Our neighbouring van enquired at the swimming pool next to us for tokens, they didn't have any, next thing they knew the mayor was knocking on their van door with the necessary tokens! So kind.
Motocross Sunday meant an early awakening due to the buzzing of angry wasp noises from the bikes whizzing around the sports stadium just across from us. In front of us was the Museum of Mummies. The only one in Spain, a sympathetic display of preserved mummies found whilst excavating the Church of the Asuncion in which the museum is housed. Whilst we were tempted, a guided only tour which had to be booked and was conducted only in Spanish, on a busy Sunday morning, with temperatures set for driving in the 30's later that day was not that alluring a prospect. Highly recommend this aire, hard standing , beautiful views of the surrounding countryside .Thank you residents of Quinto!
