Wed 29th May Alannia El Prats NR Tarragona to Peniscola

We stayed an extra few days at the Alannia Campsite taking advantage of the  sea swimming one minute from our van and a heated swimming pool on site, and lots of  resting and reading. (I've just downloaded Don Quixote. Andy has  decided to abandon Ulysses for now).

We cycled to Cambrils, 7 Kms away, I walked on the unsurfaced road bit as it was rocky with occasional stepping cambers.

We didn't make it to drive to  Tarragona, not enough energy sadly.

We were both very sad to leave this excellent campsite  behind. It only became noisier at the weekend , with families arriving, some  babies  definitely didn't find the change  of air to their liking!

Other places are really only reachable by car or bus from this campsite Recommended .

We drove south  for 70 miles in the hottest part of the day to a campsite more accessible to a town on foot - Peniscola (pronounced Penyiscola with the emphasis on the i!)

Very tourist oriented quite upmarket coastal  town half hour walk along a wide paseo to the old town and the  Knights Templar castle

Lovely walk along the beaches with stops for water and coffee

Sad to leave this heated pool behind

The old town and castle which features in series 6 of the Game of Thrones ( Meerees forthold) and El Cid

Battlements

Sunset over the strip
