Thursday 13th June 2024 Arcachon

Fresh morning swim in the  Hume estuary river just as the  tide was going out, so it was  good exercise swimming against the current. A class of primary school children were having fun playing a large parachute game when we arrived. Very sweet to witness their excitement.

Afternoon train into Arcachon, brand new train stock. A beautiful town  in the Arcachon basin with  several beaches and 3 piers, one of which  is a ferry point where you can catch boats  around the bay , for  bird watching or across  to Cap Ferrat opposite Arcachon . The biggest sand dune in France (Pilat) is just down the coast. We decided not to do it a second time.

Went for a swim near the ferry boarding pier. Very shallow  but swimable out by the float line. Delightful. No waves apart from  the occasional ferry departure swell .

Railway station at Plage de  Hume is a  simple 12 min walk from the campsite . NB Suggest downloading SCNF   mobile phone app  to buy  train tickets as the station  ticket machine is hard to decipher  due to it  switching back  to French half way through the selection process.

Very pretty railway station at Acarchon.

15 minute walk  straight down the main road  from the Acarchon railway station to the beaches . Impressive, very old  tamarisk trees bound up with iron bands line the beach promenade. We ate a frozen yoghurt  ice cream on the stone seating  looking out to sea. I spotted a Citroen Diane on this  outing (Andy's Orange hair dryer  of a  car which slowly  got us to Scotland  and back to meet his parents  for the first time. Andy likes taking risks...)

Back at the van  by 8 ( I was  asleep by 9!)

Weather changes dramatically tomorrow,  cloud  cover , rain  showers and much lower temperatures than  today's pleasant 21 degrees.
