Wednesday 25th May Sarlat, Dordogne (Perigord-Noir)

Huttopia campsite again on a steep hill 10 mins walk down hill to Sarlat, heated pool,  showers, very shady pitches 17€ with ACSI discount  card

Market day in Sarlat, very crowded, I wore a  mask, truffles, walnuts, foie gras 🥺, cassoulet , and everything duck related in fact

View from top of St Marie church. Glass lift takes 8 passengers up the bell tower along with a very amusing guide  (l'ascenseur was constructed by world renowned architect Jean Nouvel). Due to patrimony (heritage) laws introduced in the 60's, Sarlat was able to save a large number of its mediaeval buildings from demolition and has the largest quarter in the Dordogne. It's the most visited town in the region.

Lantern of the Dead where Benedictine monks prayed for their souls

Simple church

Andy enjoying a welcome ice cream after the bustle of the morning market

Amazing steel doors covering the indoor market (Jean Nouvel again)

Photo opp at every corner

  1. If you're looking for LPG in Sarlat don't go to the Total station. When we tried to get some there they refused to serve us - " Nous vendrons l'autogas pour conduire n'est pas pour cuisine!"
