Wednesday 11 May 2022 Poole to Cherbourg to Carentan

The Cruise ship docked outside the exhibition hall has its own London eye tourist attraction - a sort of gondola on a crane. The free Aire we parked up in is in the front of the picture,

Cherbourg has a handsome theatre

On the ferry, passengers  stand mesmerised on the helicopter pad deck, apart from Andy on the right, who seems to be heading somewhere

The most sheltered part of the ferry on the lee side

I like the mixture of  colours here

Barfleur is a pretty fishing village near Cherbourg

Heading into Cherbourg  harbour,  there was an Irish ferry from Rosslare docked  (on the right) and the Anthem of the Sea cruise ship (on the left). There were a lot of Americans visiting Cherbourg today;  they were very friendly.

We were very happy with our comfy cabin with a sea view

Gotham city tower in the Cite de la  Mer exhibition hall. Cite de la Mer is a big tourist attraction, deep water aquarium, nuclear sub and Titanic display housed in enormous art deco passenger hall from 1930's. The Titanic called in here to pick up passengers.

Settled in for the night on a countryside Aire with electricity (11€)  backing on to a small holiday park . Carentan was the site of a battle between American and German soldiers  in the Second World War  and is a gateway town to the wetland area

Deep sea submersibles in the exhibition area, Henri - Germain Delauze much decorated French  deep sea explorer.

Excavator on the sea bed
Can never resist a roundabout

Sub which fits three people
We worried that this might be on the flimsy side

Anyone seen James Cameron's film ' the Abyss? 🙂

Sea bed roamer down in the Kuril trench

More Submersibles

I like to do a full  safety inspection before we head out to sea 🙂
We think Amila, our 14 month old grand daughter would like to wheel her  pushchair up and down this walkway.      ( safety netting in place)

Interesting rock formations as we leave the headland behind
hurrah , we are on the Barfleur ferry heading for Cherbourg 🎉

Leaving Poole harbour behind at 8.30 am this morning, the luxury housing development with individual jetties disappear on the horizon

Here is life boat number one  on board
