Tuesday 24th May 2022 Montignac, Chateau de Losses, St Leon sur Vezere, Le Conquil

Montignac early morning walk before setting off for our mammoth sightseeing day

Early morning light helps

Chateau overlooking the village - no public access.

Chateau de Losse- a few km out of Montignac on the road to Sarlat - it had tranquil gardens and a well appointed house, the occupant was well rewarded for their loyalty to the King in the 100 years war.

Where the mistress escaped for quiet time,  in her own turret

Ablutions

The yellow bedroom chest with  carvings of Christian figures

Loved this mirror

Stunning views of the Vezere from the terrace

One of the designated beautiful villages in France, St Leon sur Vezere (between Montignac and Sarlat)

This was a fantastic last minute decision to visit Le Conquil, the troglodyte rock caves/ shelter system, over the bridge from St Leon

Village inhabitants would hide out  in the caves when invaders passed through , and with a system of pulleys and ropes, this was originally a drawbridge which could be pulled up to cast the unwitting  soldier far below.

Down this ravine

Andy exploring nooks and crannies

It was absolutely stunning

Cute haircut

The rock shelter trail
