Day 19 Tuesday 8 October Palermo Sicily - San Vito

Day 19 Tuesday 8 October

Arrived in Palermo at 8 am , our intro to Sicily, a crazy drive through rush hour traffic, cars overtaking us on both sides, right hand feeder lanes / minor roads seem to have priority ( our driver showed nerves of steel) We decided to forego sight seeing in Palermo on day 1 and headed north east on an anti clockwise route around the coast of Sicily .We drove through some stunning countryside; vineyards/ olive tree plantations stretching geometrically as far as the eye could see across undulating hills . We passed by Castellamare, our first well reviewed Sicilian sea side resort, and pushed onto El Bahira, an award winning eco camp site on the San Vito lo Capo peninsula with no sea swimming on offer near the campsite , (too rocky) , but a fabulous , huge swimming pool from where we could appreciate fantastic sunsets. It specialises in accommodating climbers too as there are 23 crags nearby so the campsite was lovely even though it was out of season. After the hectic pace of the last few days, the peace and quiet of the place was very much appreciated . It was isolated from any towns by its situation and this suited us well, so we rested, swam and cleaned the van out properly . Andy went for  his first attempt as hero of the week award, and cycled uphill for 4 kms to the nearest town ( San Vito) to get us some cash as we were all out.
