Day 18 Mon Oct 7 Napoli

Day 18 Monday October 7

Pouring with rain all morning , so passed up on a planned trip to Herculaneum and drove on to Naples and parked by the port where we planned to catch the ferry later that night . Very busy, limited signage and expensive day parking for campervans. The afternoon involved a trip to an English speaking dentist. The window opposite the patient's chair opened out onto a fine view of Sorrento across the bay . It was more relaxing than my own dentist' s photos of cats and puppies on the ceiling...each to their own. Andy heroically navigated a drive in the van into the centre of Napoli , waited for me for 90 mins and drove us back out to the port in the rush hour , complicated by the sat nav sending us down narrow streets with cars nonchalantly double parked. His calmness was impressive. After much waiting about in the van,  we boarded the overnight ferry to Palermo at 7.45 pm. Our cabin with a double berth and outside window was basic, but clean and comfortable. Very functional ferry. 100€ single crossing , greasy spoon and v expensive self -service cafe on board. Lovely to stretch out in the long bunkbeds after our rather cramped sleeping accommodation in the van . A very smooth crossing, I'm relieved to say .
