Day 14 Wednesday 2 October , Monteriggioni

Day 14 Wednesday 2 October

Clouding over, rain forecast. A delightful warm swim in the sea before we left the lagoon and our friendly Agriturisma campsite run by the kindly Stefania. We travelled 2 hours on autostradas , checking out the Bologna Sosta stop first , but it was not good, behind a garage and caravan shop , small gravel car park, no shade and directly under a main noisy flight path , so regretfully, we travelled on another 2 hours to reach a Tuscan fortified hill town , Monteriggioni . We had a tense moment leaving the autostrada as on entry to it , we couldn't see any toll booth to issue us a ticket, all the tolls seemed to be Telepasse cards only , so we ducked around the toll booths and entered the motorway . No ticket to produce at the toll booths at the end lead to a fearful conversation on my part with a voice when I pressed the buzzer .To our relief, I explained the situation and thankfully it was accepted that we had got on at Bologna and we were charged accordingly on our card rather than a hefty fine as tourist guides had warned us of. Monteriggioni is a pretty, 'touristy' hilltop town, ( the video game Assassin's Creed is based on it apparently ) we stayed in a spacious, v quiet Sosta car park at the foot of the town , toilets shared with car park 🤨and walked up to the town , wandered around and Andy sampled the local delicious red Chianti .
