Day 21 Thurs 10 Oct Zingaro Nature reserve

Day 21 Thursday 10 October

We regretfully left El Bahira campsite behind (18 € per night with electricity and 2 showers per day thrown in ) It had the most convoluted , complicated , machine- stamping hot shower token arrangement we had ever encountered, but we figured it out eventually. We headed for the famous beach of San Vito for a swim 5 minutes drive from El Bahira . The beach has a spot for wild camping for up to 8 vans but they were all full by the time we got there , so we parked nearby and fed a parking meter we found . The beach is beautiful ; a crescent shaped bay , azure, clear waters , with a gently shelving sandy bottom .There was an area of free beach to sit on (15€ per day for a lounger and umbrella !) but we were constantly pestered by beach sellers every few minutes and they were so persistent , that it became tiresome , so after 2 hours, we gave up and headed for the Zingaro Nature reserve, another 10 minutes drive for an early evening walk along the coastal path half way up the hill side (summit 900 m) The walk was classified as easy but comprised of large raised stones needing careful attention as you picked your way up the hilly bits .Very sadly , partly because it was still hot and humid at 5 pm, a I ran out of steam after 50 mins and we completed a circuit route instead of completing the full 4 km path .Interesting old agricultural museums en route. We wild camped overnight in the car park , complete silence and facing the sea .
