Left Evora and drove to Estremoz first, a fortified hill town. We found the large car park in the centre after a slightly scary trip through the old town gate (will it fit??). Steep hill to the top of the town, and then we found the castle appeared to be entirely taken over by the Pousada, so no access. We searched in vain for an exhibition of modern paintings, but gave up after a bit and returned to the MH.
We then went to look for an alleged Praia Fluvia in Portagem, but found the section of river usually dammed for swimmers had been drained. Disappointed.
Marvao was a better bet, fantastic castle on top of a spectacular rock. Amazing views, white walled very pretty village.
