Saturday 16 October Tavira town

No cockerels at the campsite just barking dogs til the early hours. The coastal train was 10 mins walk from the campsite, 3€ for both of us for a 10 min  train journey,  beautiful town unaffected by tourism with a large river running through the centre. We climbed the Moorish castle with a beautiful garden withing its walls and visited the Museum of Islamic Art with beautiful ceramic tiles We watched a Fado concert in the church and learned how Fado had been appropriated by left and right wing government  factions over decades. Ferries to Ilha da Tavira to access the beautiful beaches run regularly from the Tavira Riverside harbour. We chose to walk back via the cycle walk route through the salt pans passing the a solar panel powered sewage treatment plant and spotted Black winged stilts pottering about. Fascinating. I went for a last swim at the campsite and fell gratefully into bed Tavira and the well situated campsite both recommended. Tomorrow the beaches.
