Saturday 23 October Beira -Castelo da Vide Salamanca

We both had a run/ jog first thing, then breakfast, servicing the MH and on the road. We highly recommend this small rural friendly camp site ,Roon and Vitor from Amsterdam took it over 5 weeks ago . There are lots of walking trails/ mule tracks and if you want to go further electric bikes would come in  handy  We travelled to Castelo do Vide first of all, another hilltop town in sight of Marvao,a few kilometres away.

We walked around the old town and the castle , marvelling at the lack of health and safety of

the castle roof , appreciating a  photographic exhibition of the Carnation revolution in Portugal in 1984  by Fredo Cunha . I would like to have stayed overnight here , it's larger than other hill top villages and a bit more touristy , but it's situated in a beautiful wooded valley and it has a large brand new Piscina near the wild camp parking area( you can hear the longing can't you ?).We shared a  Tony's  pizza in a restaurant in the main square.

Back in  the MH, having  parked near the town, we set off for a long drive north, over the border into Spain, through Valencia de Alcantara to near Caceres and then a long drive up the motorway to Salamanca. We have been to Caceres before, so we decided to move on , and  head north as we are planning  to catch  the ferry home on Thursday. The campsite Don Quijote  in Salamanca is 5 k from the centre , and is by the river Torres. It's very pretty . We arrived just as darkness was falling , and put our watches forward an hour

Another disappointment here ,  nearby river bathing is not advised due to effluent discharge. So I consoled myself with a dusk river side stroll .Tomorrow ,Sunday, we will go and look around Salamanca  from this camp site.

We are prepared for it to be crowded
