Feeling much restored today , we set off from Gouda car park at 7.45 am ( a new record for us)
A long drive north to northern Germany today (500k ) with one detour and slow moving traffic due to roadworks , six lane busy highways and a long tunnel under the river Elba . We made frequent stops at motorway picnic areas to stretch our legs. Andy did so well as the only driver.
We turned off the motorway just before Hamburg ( a container city ) and headed for a very quiet campsite off the motorway called Caravan de Brahmsee in the Kiel region, arriving at 5.30 pm CET .
The rural campsite looked a little run down at first glance with old caravans seemingly in situ for some time , but the very friendly welcome, excellent English spoken, the ultra clean showers and toilets included in the 22€ per night price and the tranquility of the site in the midst of this lake rich region grew on us. Recommended.
A duck and her ducklings came to say hello on site and pecked at our toes, a hare loped in front of us , horses grazed in the field above , no traffic noise at all.
We walked to the Brahmsee lake 5 mins down the road, a cycle route around it to two designated bathing places at the other end of the lake
Someone was swimming across to this jetty , but we didn't like the look of the green algae blooming in the shallow waters at our access point to swim.out to her.
3 km down the road , (setting off this morning) we discovered a large lake with a beach and campsite which was very tempting to stop off in the hot sunshine , but we decided to press on with a four and a half hour drive north (434k) to Hirtshal where we have booked ferry leaving there tomorrow afternoon h to Larvik in Norway (2.5 hours)
We are hoping the motorways and roads will be less congested on this section of the journey
