Day 35 Thursday 20 th Jun Valer hay making

Helen invited Magnus and Anniken and  Marcus and Matthias over for tea today. We thanked Magnus for his route recommendations on our trip up North

Anniken and I chatted about films and TV , she is a nurse and is due to return to work beginning  of August after major hip surgery. Marcus  and Mattias are going to their maternal grandmother's for the weekend tomorrow ( schools break up today in Norway) enabling.Magnus and Anniken to go to a local weekend  country folk festival in Elverum where they live.

In the afternoon prior to their arrival ,  Andy and I walked around Sorsassjoen lake  (5km)  and Andy went for a short  swim afterwards. I  decided not to,  as I was feeling shy.  A large party of young students were on the beach having a barbeque to celebrate their  end of term.

Pleasant catch up with Magnus and Anniken over tea  Watched the man baling grass outside with fascination

He worked late. Helen and HK have been fantastic generous and knowledgeable and hosts. It's the very busiest time for them  and yet they have made sure we were fed watered and  saw family members. They will not be forgotten  It's not been  the journey itself most memorable for me , it's the people .

Very sadly , the calf , which was very big, didn't make it , despite Helen and Roy's  ( the vet ) very best efforts .

This morning Liv (HK' s sister in law) and Ida came  to visit for waffles and homemade jam and sour cream . Liv has a knitting business and takes orders. She and Helen often share a stall when Helen sells her cheese  team and butter and Liv her knotted garments

We were also joined by Jan Erik and Daghild who is on crutches having broken her ankle falling on the stairs last week. She is having her cumbersome boot off on Friday. Good luck Daghild ! Helen and HK are very busy cutting grass and arranging for guy to come and put it into bales for them
