Tuesday 11th September

Quiet night on campsite, everyone in their mobile homes, vans and caravans hiding from the mozzies. We decided it was time to take a rest rather than go sight seeing in Montpellier and set the Sat Nav for La Gaviotta campsite in the Golf de Roses, just across the French border into Spain where the Costa Brava starts. We stayed here two years ago and loved it, pretty , small, quiet, sparkling clean site , extremely well maintained , right on the beach, calm sea ( no big Atlantic rollers, exciting for Andy but not for me ) very friendly staff, heated ( for Spain ) swimming pool ( adults too! )and endless off-road cycle paths dotted around to nearby small towns , Roman ruins , vineyards... We left the Montpellier plage at 10 ( earliest we have managed so far ) passing through the outskirts of Montpellier, a 3 University city, and stocked up on soya burgers in the excellent Bio section at the Intermarche supermarket before crossing the Border. There were so many kite surfers scudding over the waves when we arrived, we thought it might be a festival .. We selected a spacious, night lit pitch at the quiet end of the campsite, between Dutch, German and Yorkshire neighbours. Went for an evening dip in a gently shelving toasty warm sea before beans on toast for tea, couple of beers /cola zeros at the bar and a downloaded episode of Bodyguard Absolute bliss ...
